Ponca man dies in wreck on Kansas toll road

A Ponca City man was killed Thursday night when the SUV he was riding in left the Kansas turnpike at the Belle Plaine service area at a high rate of speed and struck two parked semis, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Christopher Cole, 27, died at the scene. The driver, Rusty Anderson, 40, and passenger Ellen Remy, 28, both of Ponca City, were taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Anderson was listed in fair condition and Remy in serious condition Friday morning.

The accident occurred at 11:05 p.m.. The 1996 Chevrolet SUV left the ramp toward the right, struck a turnpike sign in the grass, then struck the parked trucks. The SUV came to rest in the middle of the service plaza, the patrol reported.

Cole and Anderson were both wearing seat belts. Remy was not using a seat belt.
