Temperature and humidity prompt advisory

A combination of hot temperatures and high humidity over the next few days will create potentially dangerous heat indices of 103 to 107 degrees, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from Friday afternoon to 8 p.m. Monday for Butler, Greenwood, Sedgwick, Sumner, Cowley, Elk, Chautauqua and other southeastern Kansas counties.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air conditioned room if possible. Neighbors should also check on neighbors and relatives.

The Winfield Emergency Medical Service’s mobile medical center is available at the Winfield fairground during the county fair. It is manned by medical technicians.

The Eagle Nest in Winfield is giving away fans. Proof of Cowley County residency, identification and proof of income is required. The agency is open Friday until 5 p.m and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
