Heavy rains making some roads impassable

A number of township roads ? especially in the north end of the county ? should be avoided as rain continues, Undersheriff Don Read said this morning.

"We’ve had a number of calls and two or three people who’ve gotten stuck," he said. "There are a number of roads that are impassable because they’re partially underwater or just too muddy to get through."

Cowley 2 west of Rock to the river has been closed due to heavy rains. Reports from various weather spotters in Cowley County show that some areas received 3.5 inches of rain or more in the last few days.

Arlan Anglemyer, a National Weather Service spotter, reported 1.99 inches at a location just east of Winfield in the last 24 hours.
