Wreck injures two Winfield residents Sunday

A Winfield teenager was injured Sunday afternoon after the vehicle she was riding in blew a tire and rolled into a ditch on U.S. 160, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Deidre K. Armitage, 15, was ejected from the 1986 Dodge truck in which she was a passenger. She was taken to a hospital but her condition was not immediately available.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m., when the passenger side rear tire blew out on the truck. Bobby Jack Sherman, 33, was driving the vehicle and lost control when the tire deflated.

Sherman was also injured and his condition was not known. Sherman and Armitage were both taken to William Newton Hospital for treatment.

Sherman’s truck entered the south ditch of U.S. Highway 160 and rolled. The accident occurred about five miles west of Winfield on the stretch of highway that connects Winfield and Oxford.
