Ark City police continue probe into burglaries

The investigation is continuing into the burglaries of six Arkansas City area burglaries Wednesday night. The businesses are located in the north end of town. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

Zellers Motors, in the 3000 block of N. Summit Street, Reedy Ford, in the 3300 block of N. Summit, Abbey Eyecare, in the 500 block of N. Summit, Hunter-Jackson Agency, in the 500 block of N. Summit and Dobson Insurance in the 500 block of N. Summit, were burglarized.

A burglary of the Skyline Corp., 315 W. Skyline Drive, is being investigated by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office since the company is located outside the city limits.

Burglars have hit businesses on Summit at least one other time this summer.

In July, Jim’s Total Station, Rakies Service Station and the Alumni Grill and Bar were burglarized.

A 15-year-old Wichita boy and an 18-year-old Haysville teen confessed to those crimes, according to the police department. The older boy, Matthew Baty, was driving a stolen vehicle when arrested.

A 9-count complaint was filed against Baty in Cowley County District Court including three counts of a non-residential burglary, three counts of felony theft and three counts of misdemeanor criminal damage.

Baty was in Sedgwick County’s custody on other charges when charged for the local crimes. He has not yet appeared in court here.
