Wichita man suspected of rape in Winfield

A Wichita man has been arrested as a suspect in the rape of a Winfield woman, Winfield Police Chief Jerry DeVore said Monday afternoon.

Omar Salvador Castillo-Fernandez, 29, was taken in custody early Sunday morning. He was booked into the Cowley County jail for rape, obstruction of the legal process and driving without a license.

The 25-year-old victim reported the rape Friday morning and said it occurred at a private residence.

The suspects name was not known when the initial report was received. Investigators were able to identify the alleged suspect and located him at 3 a.m. Sunday. DeVore did not say where Castillo-Fernandez was found.

He was still being held in jail Monday afternoon and had not yet made his first court appearance. Bond is $9,800.
