Candidates to appear at forum in AC tonight

Candidates for local office will participate in a public forum at 7 tonight in the Ark City High School auditorium.

The local Optimists Club and USD 470 are hosting the event as part of the Kids Voting Kansas program students in the district are participating in.

Both organizations said they wanted to provide an educational experience for the kids while also providing an opportunity for the community to get informed about candidates on the local level.

The high school’s advanced debate students have prepared questions for the candidates and will moderate the event. Members of the public are also invited to submit questions for the debate students to ask.

The ACHS FFA will also be conducting a public voter registration drive before and after the forum.

As part of the Kids Voting Kansas activities, "registered" students will cast their votes in voting booths at their schools Nov. 4. To help students gain the information they need to vote, teachers are engaging the students in age-appropriate curriculum during the weeks prior to the election.

The forum is another opportunity for the students and the public to become knowledgeable about the candidates running locally.

For more information about the forum, please call the district office at 441-2000.
