Group gives Union State Bank 4-star rating

Arkansas City-based Union State Bank has received a four-star ? or excellent ? rating from BauerFinancial Inc., an independent rating firm that analyzes banks and credit unions.

The ratings are made based on the review of various financial data that institutions are required to report to federal regulators. Capital ratio, profit-loss trend, delinquent loan levels and repossessed assets are among criteria used.

Union State Bank is proof that banks can continue to offer a sense of security even in turbulent economic times, BauerFinancial president Karen Dorway said, in a written statement.

Other area banks on the list included Winfield-based CornerBank, which received a three-star ? or adequate ? rating. Home National Bank received the same rating.
