Winter weather blast expected on Tuesday

A blast of winter weather is expected to hit the Cowley County area late Monday and early on Tuesday, said Bob Frazee, assistant emergency management director for Cowley County.

Forecasters are calling rain later today and that may include some non-severe thunderstorms. A half inch of rain could fall. Rain on Tuesday should change to snow by the afternoon, with one to two inches of the white stuff possible in some areas.

Winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour are expected with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. These gusts could cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, Frazee said. A high of 32 is expected Tuesday.

The weather is to clear by Wednesday and the rest of the week should be dry, he said.
