Ex policeman Giles new asst. county attorney

An Arkansas City native has been tapped to serve as an assistant county prosecutor, Cowley County Attorney Christopher Smith said Monday.

Chad Giles, 30, graduated from Washburn University law school in May, passed the bar exam and was sworn in to practice law in September. He joined the county attorney’s office in early December.

Giles ? a former Ark City police officer ? will work mostly in the Ark City office, Smith said. Giles is married and has an infant child.

"I’ve had some contacts with him, though not professionally," Smith said. "But he’d contacted me previously about job openings, and I didn’t have anything. Then a position opened up."

Giles replaces Philip Weiser, who left the county attorney’s office after nearly four years of service.
