Man found dead in car behind Winfield home

Winfield Police continue to investigate the death of a 29-year-old Dexter man who was found dead in a vehicle Thursday, according to interim chief Brett Stone.

Jesse H. Loughrey’s body was found around 1 p.m. when police responded to a 911 call from a Winfield residence at 311 E. 7th. Officers found Loughrey – partially sitting and partially lying down – in a 2002 four-door Pontiac Grand Am.

Loughrey, according to information police received from witnesses, spent the night at the residence on 7th, where some of his friends lived, Stone said.

"And at some point he’d gone out to the car," according to Stone.

Loughrey was discovered when a friend visited the home to return Loughrey’s cell phone. The car was parked behind the house.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death. There were no immediately visible signs of violence or trauma to the body, Stone said. A toxicology report will determine if drugs or alcohol were in the man’s system when he died.
