Cha-ching: $1,050 missing from local home

Local banks and businesses have been warned to look out for a large number of quarters, pennies and dollar coins that were snatched from a home in Winfield earlier this month.

Roughly $1,050 in coins were reported missing from a home in the 1400 block of E. 14th, according to interim Winfield Police Chief Brett Stone. Whoever took the money forced open a door, went inside and took coins from jars.

The incident is thought to have occurred between Feb. 5 and Feb. 8.

Some of the coins were state quarters and others were dollar coins. Stone said businesses have been asked to keep an eye out for anyone with a large amount of coins asking to trade them in for cash.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Winfield Police Department at 221-5555.
