Casino neglect mom gets a deferred sentence

Sentencing has been deferred for one year for a Dallas woman who admitted that she left her small children in her car while she was at the First Council Casino last summer.

Julie Marie Holcomb, 43, pleaded no contest in Kay County District Court to a felony count of child neglect. Her five-year-old daughter was wandering around the parking lot crying when she was discovered July 14. Holcomb’s six-year-old son was found in her car, according to court records.

A deferred sentence allows an offender to avoid more jail time if they can stay out of trouble for predetermined amount of time.
