WMS students helping Marine with Iraq project

Students at Winfield Middle School have been helping a local soldier ? now serving in Iraq ? with a project to gather clothing, school supplies and sports equipment for needy Iraqi families and children.

Damien Annuschat, who graduated from Winfield High School in 2002, is now a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp. He serves as a platoon leader in Fallujah.

Members of the middle school’s Builders Club participated in the project to help Annuschat’s platoon rebuild Fallujah by focusing on the needs of families.

Each of Annuschat’s three squads adopted an area of the city for improvement: one has adopted a school, another a soccer field, and one an entire Kurdistan village. These Marines are soliciting donations of school supplies, sports equipment, and basic needs such as clothing.

Builders Club sponsored a drive to collect school supplies and also provided 24 soccer balls and 24 Frisbees.

Annuschat is the son of Jim and Mary Annuschat.? Jim is a social science teacher at Winfield Middle School and Mary is the student services secretary there.

Anyone interested in contributing to this project may contact Annuschat by E-mail for more information or for a shipping address. Mary Annuschat at 221-5130 can also provide information.
