Cops search Chambers’s car, house for clues

Law enforcement officials have conducted an extensive search of Diane Chambers’s home and car looking for clues to the whereabouts of the Winfield woman who was last seen Monday night, Winfield interim chief Brett Stone said.

The police department is conducting interviews with family and friends in an effort to locate Chambers, according to a written statement.

At Chambers home on E. Sixth police had closed the street and cordoned off the front of the home with yellow crime scene tape. Her car was towed from the scene for evidence collection purposes.

No one in law enforcement would comment on the nature of the investigation but several sources said it was highly likely the case would turn from a missing person search into a criminal matter.

Friends and family have described Chambers as woman that would not willingly disappear and not tell anyone. Her identification and other personal items were all left at the home.

She requires glasses or contacts and left those behind as well, police said.

Chambers was reported missing Tuesday after she failed to show up at a family event.

Authorities have been following up on tips from callers who believe they may have sighted the woman but so far those leads have not proved valid.
Winfield police are joined by the county sheriff’s office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and local trackers as they conduct their search.
