Winfield crews wrapping up limb collections

Crews in Winfield Thursday wrapped up the last of the limb collection that began following the ice storm in late March, public works director Russ Tomevi said.

Five crews using 15 dump trucks hauled 815 loads of limbs to the city’s compost site on Broad, just west of the Winfield Fairground. In addition, the public hauled over 350 pickup and trailer loads to the compost center, Tomevi said.

The city was assisted in its clean up effort by the Kansas Department of Transportation, the Winfield Correctional Facility and the county.

After Thursday, the compost site will return to regular hours of operation which are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Individuals are encouraged to use the facility to dispose of any additional trimming and clean up that they may have.
