Winfield man given 55 months on sex charge

A Winfield man ? originally charged with rape last spring ? pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and has been sentenced to more than four years in prison, according to a court official.

In late April, Jeremiah Johnson, 21, entered a plea to a count of aggravated indecent liberties with a person under 16, a felony. Judge Nick St Peter sentenced the man to 55 months in the custody of Kansas Department of Corrections.

Johnson was arrested in the spring of 2008 and charged with two counts of rape and a count of indecent liberties with a child. The case was investigated by the Winfield Police Department.

The charges were reduced as part of plea agreement.
