Report: Dexter man OD’d on morphine, booze

Jesse H. Loughrey ? a 30-year-old Dexter man found dead in a car outside a Winfield home in late January ? accidentally overdosed on a mixture of drugs and alcohol, according to a final autopsy report.

Testing of Loughrey’s blood indicated a fatal level of morphine, as well as the presence of alcohol and Diazepam ? the generic name for the anti-anxiety drug Valium, according to the report prepared by Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo.

Alcohol and Diazepam may have also heightened the potency of the Morphine.

An autopsy was performed at the Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita on Jan. 30. A report was finalized and released April 20. Interim Winfield police chief Brett Stone provided NewsCow with a copy of that report upon request.

Police were called to a residence at 311 E. Seventh around 1 p.m. Jan. 29 and officers found Loughrey’s body inside a 2002 Grand Am. Loughrey had spent the night at the home where he and friends were partying, Stone said Wednesday.

At some point during the course of the evening Loughrey had left the home and gone outside. His body was found later in the day when a friend arrived at the house to return Loughrey’s cell phone.

The car was parked behind the house.

Stone said no criminal charges will be filed in the case. It is very uncommon for police to find morphine at local parties involving drugs and alcohol, the chief said.
