Justice to take part in probe of Tiller shooting

The Justice Department announced Friday that it would conduct a federal investigation in connection with the shooting death of abortion doctor George Tiller.

Federal officials will review evidence in the case to determine if there were violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act or any other federal statutes.

The federal investigation will be conducted in close coordination with the office of the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office, according to a written statement from the Justice Department.

The FACE act was established in 1994 to establish federal criminal penalties and civil remedies for violent, obstructionist or damaging conduct affecting reproductive health care providers or recipients of such health care.
