Miffed customer shows up at banker’s house

Winfield Home National Bank President Larry Hoover suffered minor injuries Thursday evening when a disgruntled customer showed up at the bank official’s home and assaulted him, according to Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller.

Edward L. Reece, 52, Udall, was arrested and faces charges of battery, criminal trespassing and criminal threat, a felony. His bail was set at $3,500 and he has since bonded out of jail.

Hoover suffered scrapes and a minor injury to his eye. He was treated and released from a local hospital, according to Mueller.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m., when Reece showed up at Hoover’s rural home north of Winfield. It’s believed Reece was upset over a business dispute and had been drinking, Mueller said.

There was an altercation ? outside the home ? and Reece struck Hoover before Hoover was able to restrain him, Mueller said. Deputies were then called to the scene.
