Sunflower Credit Union merger happens Thurs

Sunflower Credit Union in Arkansas City will officially merge with Wichita-based Mid-American Credit Union on Thursday, the companies said.

Mary Strange will continue as the Ark City branch manager, along with tellers Freida Jackson and Myrna Torres. Members approved the merger through a vote this summer.

Sunflower Credit Union is located at 1610 N. Summit.

The merger will give existing Mid-American members in south-central Kansas a nearby location to handle their financial needs, and will provide a new range of services to Sunflower members, company officials said.

Mid American already has about 700 members in the area because of affiliate group partnerships with employers Rubbermaid and GE Engine Services.

"We have a substantial number of members in the Arkansas City area so opening this office gives them better access to our services," Jim Holt, Mid American president and CEO, said. "Plus it gives access to more services to the nearly 1,700 Sunflower members we are gaining through the merger."

Mid American Credit Union, established in 1936, serves more than 21,000 members.
