H1N1 vaccine to be given in Winfield schools

The City-Cowley County Health Department has received enough H1N1 vaccine to begin in-school vaccine clinics next week for pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade students. The immunization is free and is optional.

Next Tuesday, nurses from the City-Cowley County Health Department will begin giving this immunization to students whose parents have returned a consent form. Nurses will begin at Winfield Intermediate School, and then move to the next school when they are finished.

A specific time for immunizations at each school is not set because it depends on how many students are getting the vaccine.

Parents who have not returned the consent form but would like to have their child receive this vaccine, should return the form to the child’s school. Additional consent forms are available from the school nurses.

As more vaccine becomes available, grades seven through twelve will be offered the vaccine during in-school clinics, school officials said.
