Read: Friday crash may have been intentional

A collision between a car and semi-truck on U.S. 77 late Friday may have been intentionally caused by the driver of the car, Cowley County Sheriff Don Read said. The person’s name has yet to be released.

Around 11:20 p.m., deputies were sent to the intersection of 77 and 322nd Rd. south of Ark City for the report of an injury accident. They found that a 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck had been struck on its right side as it traveled north on the highway.

The semi was hit by a 2000 Chevy Malibu going west on 322nd. Further investigation indicated the driver of the Malibu may have intentionally tried to drive into the path of the truck. The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Robin O. Olson, 34, Sand Springs, Okla., was identified as the driver of the truck. He was shaken by the incident but not injured.

The sheriff’s office has yet to publicly name the driver of the Malibu due to the possibility of charges being filed, Read said. Investigators are also looking into the possibility that alcohol and or illegal drugs may have been a factor in the collision.
