AC police offering free vital info disk for kids

Parents in Ark City can get a special mini CD ? which contains information vital to help finding missing children ? through a program being offered by the police department.

The SafeAssured Child ID program provides a free CD for any student grades First through Fifth. Anyone interested should take their child to the Ark City Police Dept. from 9 a.m to 3 p.m Feb.20.

If your child has participated in the program before ? but at least two years have passed ? bring your mini CD back to police to update the information. Each mini disk contains importanin personal identification information law enforcement can use to help find missing people.

The information is secured through electronic encryption and can only be accessed when a parent or guardian presents the CD to law enforcement. Police do not maintain a database copy of the information.

Dept. of Justice estimates show that close to 800,000 children are reported missing each year, according to local police.

If you have questions, please call officer Ryan Williams at (620) 441-4444.
