Teen takes off while AC cops search for drugs

Two juveniles inside a vehicle at the W. Chestnut Bridge Saturday evening could face charges resulting from a search for drugs.

The incident occurred when Ark City police went to patrol the bridge due to fights that occurred earlier Saturday and on Friday. Officers found a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.

The smell of marijuana was coming from the car, according to a police report. A male juvenile gave a phony name and then attempted to flee from police.

Before the boy was apprehended it appeared he discarded some items. Police requested use of the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. to assist in a search for what might have been tossed away.

A substance was found and is being sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for further analysis.

A female juvenile at the scene was released to the custody of her mother. Police and prosecutors have yet to determine if formal charges will be filed.
