Cops release details of drug bust and charges

Winfield authorities have released details of a large-scale drug sweep made last week. A number of people were arrested in connection with the sweep, which as based on a year-long investigation.

Search warrants served at various properties in the area also turned up evidence of the beginnings of a marijuana grow operation, police said in a written statement. Evidence of cultivation and other evidence collected during the searches is expected to result in further charges.

Two people that had remained wanted in connection with the case have turned themselves in.

The following is a list of the subjects that have been arrested and the charges that have been filed through the Cowley County Attorney’s Office:

Taylor S. Towles, 26 Winfield, was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Chalen Tickel, 26 Winfield, was arrested and charged with distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of marijuana and distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, aiding and abetting the sale of marijuana, and three counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Chad A. Parker, 26 Winfield, was arrested and charged with distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.

Anthony D. Bell, 29 Winfield, was arrested and charged with distribution of cocaine and no drug tax stamp.

April Adams, 26 Winfield, was arrested and charged distribution of marijuana distribution of cocaine, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, three counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime, and no drug tax stamp.

Justin Swanson, 26 Winfield, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug distribution paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp.

Anthony Henderson, 29 Arkansas City, was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana, two counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime, sale of a simulated controlled substance, and no drug tax stamp.

Bruce Cook, 41 Winfield, was arrested for distribution of methamphetamine and use of a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Cameron Cassiday, 21 Winfield, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug use paraphernalia.

Krista Horton, 20 Winfield, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug use paraphernalia.

Britnie Banja, 23 Winfield, as arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of methamphetamine and two counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Summer Potter, 28 Arkansas City, was arrested and charged with three counts of distribution of methamphetamine and using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Derick Nasworthy, 27 Winfield, was arrested and charged with of distribution of methamphetamine and using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime. Further charges are pending on this suspect.

David Carothers, 23 Winfield, was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

Ashley McCoskey, 23 Winfield, was arrested and charged with distribution of methamphetamine and using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

A juvenile from Arkansas City was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime.

A juvenile from Winfield was arrested and charged with distribution of marijuana, distribution of cocaine, distribution of ecstasy, three counts of distribution of using a telephone to facilitate a drug crime and no drug tax stamp.

During the activities on June 11th two arrest warrants for non drug related charges were served as well.

Whitney Clay ,20 Winfield, was arrested and charged with felony theft and felony obstruction of the legal process.

Billy Simmons, 41 Arkansas City, was arrested and charged with felony theft and criminal damage to property.

Officers also arrested the following suspects during the execution of the search warrants:

Marlon E. Lear, 28 Winfield, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug use paraphernalia

Logan Gomez 23 Winfield was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug use paraphernalia.

Further charges are expected to be filed in connection with this investigation. In addition to the above named subjects further charges are expected against several additional suspects upon completion of the cases. Their names will not be released until formal charges are filed.

Officers with the Winfield Police Department, Arkansas City Police Department, Cowley County Sheriff’s Department , Kansas Highway Patrol, as well as agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Alcohol Beverage Control assisted agents with the Cowley County Drug Task Force in this investigation.
