Elderly man seriously hurt in wreck near CV

Two men were sent to the hospital late Wednesday after a collision west of Cedar Vale that left one of the men partially trapped under a horse trailer for a time.

Mose H. Tallchief, 81, Wichita, was taken to Wesley Medical center after his vehicle was separated from the trailer. Travis John Haden, 21, Grenola, was driving the vehicle with the trailer attached.

Haden was transported to the hospital in Ark City for treatment. His injuries were considered mostly minor and not life-threatening.

Tallchief was in serious condition this morning, according to a Wesley spokesperson.

Around 9 p.m., Tallchief was northbound on K-15 in a 2000 Mercury Marquis when he struck Haden’s pickup truck ? which was pulling a homemade gooseneck trailer ? in the rear, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The momentum of the crash pushed Haden across the dividing line of the highway at which time another vehicle became involved in the accident. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.
