Dexter woman critically hurt in accident Mon.

A Dexter woman was critically injured late Monday night when she made a U-turn in front of a semi tractor pulling another trailer east of Arkansas City.

Hazel D. Thompson, 65, was taken by ambulance to the Sedan hospital and then airlifted to Via Christi Regional Medical Center – St. Francis Campus.

The accident occurred at 11:20 p.m. on U.S. 166, 300 feet west of the east junction with K-15, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Thompson and the semi being driven by Richard L. Bauer Jr., Wichita, were both traveling east when Thompson made the U-turn on the highway and was struck by the semi. The 40-year-old truck driver suffered possible injuries.
