County attorney to consider charges in fatality

The Cowley County Attorney’s office will review reports from a fatality accident in March to determine if charges are necessary.

County attorney Chris Smith says his office has recently received reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol in regard to an accident in March that killed Maxwell Martin, 21, of rural Cowley County.

Maxwell was a passenger in a car driven by Leah Logan, 22, of Caldwell. Logan is said to have failed to yield while crossing U.S. 77 Highway at the intersection of 222nd Rd. Her vehicle was broadsided by a semi-truck.

Charges can range from a simple failure to yield charge to something more severe. Smith said he could not speculate on what charges, if any, would be filed.
