Creekstone ID theft probe leads to indictment

Inocente Monroy Alcantara, who is accused of working at Ark City’s Creekstone Farms meatpacking plant under an assumed name, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges stemming from an identity-theft investigation involving a U.S. Marine.

Alcantara, 26, faces a count of possessing false documents to be employed, four counts of aggravated identity theft, one count of making a false statement on an I-9 employment eligibility form, one count of misusing a Social Security number and one count of producing a false identification document.

A grand jury assembled in Kansas City returned the indictment.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred June 24, 2008. On Sept. 1, 2010, a U.S. Marine, who had recently returned from overseas deployment, told Ark City police that someone at Creekstone was using his name and Social Security number.

Investigators determined Alcantara presented the company with a falsified Indiana driver’s license and Social Security card bearing the Marine’s name.

The charges carry with them the potential for federal prison time and fines up to $250,000.
