Winfield man faces child abuse count in Riley

A Winfield man has been arrested in connection with a child abuse investigation in Riley County, authorities there said.

Timothy C. Clawson, 22, was booked on a single count of aggravated battery Thursday. The case involves a one-and-a-half-month-old child, according to Riley County police Lt. Herb Crosby Jr.

Clawson’s bail was originally set at $20,000, but the amount was cut in half during the suspect’s first appearance Friday. He remains confined.

Crosby said the child was in the care of Clawson when it sustained injuries that led the baby’s mother to take the child to Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley. A police report indicates the abuse took place on Tuesday.

Doctors noted the injuries and contacted military officials to look into the matter.

The Riley County Police Dept. was contacted when military officials determined the alleged crime took place in Ogden, a town under the jurisdiction of the RCPD. Further investigation led to Clawson’s arrest.

Riley County media reports indicate the child’s mother lives with Clawson and that the suspect was baby sitting while the mother was away.
