Kansas Homeland Security officials visited Arkansas City High School and Middle School Tuesday to assess safety and security at the buildings, school district officials said.
USD 470 invited the officials to Ark City as part of continuing efforts to improve safety and security in schools, district spokesperson Alisha Call said. The district will use information from the visit to enhance its emergency response plan and other procedures.
District officials knew of the visit beforehand but building principals and other staff did not, Call said.
