Injured driver remains in serious Wednesday

UPDATE: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday – Shawn V. Coleman, 21, Winfield, has been identified as the driver injured Tuesday. He was in the black pickup.

He remained in serious condition this morning at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Bobby L. Buford, Choteau, Okla., was the driver of the semi truck. He suffered minor injuries and declined to be transported to the hospital.

Both men were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred, according to Brett Stone, of the Winfield Police Dept.

Coleman will likely be cited for failing to yield, but no citations have been issued thus far.

Two people were injured Tuesday evening when a black pickup truck and semi collided on U.S. 77 in south Winfield.

The accident happened near the intersection of 77 and Quail Ridge Dr. around 6 p.m. The semi driver suffered minor injuries.

The pickup’s driver was seriously injured and taken by ground ambulance to a Wichita hospital.

Initial reports indicate the black pickup was southbound when it attempted to turn across the northbound lane onto Quail Ridge Dr. The truck was struck by a semi in the northbound lane.
