Three hurt in single-car accident on Cowley 3

At least three people were seriously injured early Friday evening in a traffic accident on Cowley 3, about two miles south of U.S. 160.

The victims were believed traveling in a small, navy blue pickup truck that left the paved highway and veered into a pasture on the west side of the road. First reports from the scene indicated that three people were ejected from the vehicle, which appeared to have overturned.

First responders triaged the victims and wasted little time calling for an air ambulance to be dispatched from Wichita. EagleMed was on the ground before 7:20 p.m. and left immediately with one patient.

A Winfield ambulance had already left the scene carrying two victims directly to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. One victim was 12 years old and the second was described as a 42 year old woman.

The first report of the accident was received at the police department about 6:34 p.m. from someone driving by. It’s unknown at this time if the caller actually saw the wreck occur. Other calls then began coming in from people who also drove by and then stopped to help.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
