AG’s office gets report on Sumner Co. wreck

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office has been given the results of an investigation into a traffic accident north of Wellington July 29 that claimed the life of two children, a Sumner County official said Tuesday.

One of the children, Kathrine Tredway, 10, was the daughter of a Wellington police officer and the granddaughter of an Oxford police officer. The second child, Thomas Alexander 11, was the nephew of the Wellington officer.

“All I can really say at this time is that it’s under review,” said Ashley Anstaett, spokeswoman for Attorney General Paul Morrison.

The children died when a truck collided with the van in which they were traveling. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the truck driver, Lanny Carter of Salina, ran a stop sign on K-53 and U.S. 81 highway.

Sumner County Attorney Kassie McEntire is out of the office this week, but legal assistant Terry Koehn said he forwarded the file to Topeka?Oct. 31.

“They have everything there,” he said.

The Tredway and Alexander families were going to Wichita to attend a family event the day of the accident. Mike and Devena Tredway, the child’s parents, were traveling in a separate vehicle. The Alexander family was visiting from Haughton, La.
