Trial delayed for suspect in Whiteman death

Reginald Johnson will not go on trial next week for the alleged murder of his wife – Amy Whiteman.

Johnson’s first degree premeditated murder trial was originally set for next week. It was canceled during the weekly trial conference Thursday afternoon but a new date was not entered, Georgia Cole, spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office said Friday.

Normally in such circumstances, a new date would be set during the Monday morning docket call, she said.

“He is definitely not on the list for next week’s trials,” Cole said.

Whiteman is a former Cowley County resident and graduate of Central Burden High School. She was living in Wichita with Johnson. He allegedly told police he hurt his wife. They found she had been shot multiple times.

He is being held in the Sedgwick County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
