New dates set in Chautauqua County cases

New court dates have been set for two Chautauqua County men charged with kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl last summer.

The original trial dates were canceled after Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison announced he is resigning Jan. 31. Morrison was the lead prosecutor on the cases against Stephen Gregor and Aaron Terning.

A new trial date of April 7 was set Thursday for Gregor . He is charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping, two counts rape and two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy. All three charges are felonies.

A motion hearing has been set for Jan. 10 for Terning, who was scheduled to go on trial Jan. 14. He is charged with on count aggravated kidnapping and one count rape.

No information has been available on when or where the alleged rape and kidnap occurred because of a gag order issued early in the proceedings. Chautauqua County Attorney Kimberly King requested the AG’s office handle the case.

Morrison was also the lead attorney on a capital murder case pending in Cowley County. A new lead prosecutor was announced Thursday. A hearing was held in District Court in Winfield Friday morning.
