Suspect in Whiteman death set for trial in Feb

The jury trial for the man accused of murdering former Cowley Countian Amy Whiteman is now scheduled to begin Feb. 25, Georgia Cole, a spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, said Tuesday.

The trial date for Reginald Johnson has changed several times since he walked into a Wichita police bureau last August and told police he had hurt his wife.

Police went to the home and discovered Whiteman’s body. The 36-year-old woman had been shot multiple times in the torso, police said.

Whiteman lived in Cambridge and graduated from Central High School in 1989. She worked at the Winfield State Hospital for eight years and had two sons. Many of her relatives still live in the Cowley County area.
