Police look for car snatched from Winfield lot

Winfield police are looking for a 2009 Chrysler Sebring that went missing from the lot at Winfield Motor Company this weekend.

The inferno red, four-door sedan was last seen late Saturday and was not on the lot when employees returned Monday. It had the keys in it and a quarter-tank of gas, according to officer Chris Roark of the Winfield Police Department.

The lot at 1901 Main is rarely the victim of auto theft, owner Larry Raber said. In the 13 years since the business opened, this is the second stolen car he can remember.

Police have entered the vehicle’s identification number into the database of the FBI’s National Crime Information Center. If the vehicle is stopped without tags ? or tags that don’t belong on that car ? a run of the VIN number will tip officers to the fact that the car is stolen.

"Hopefully that car’s sitting around here some place," Raber said. "Hopefully they get a hit on it."

The Sebring was a limited model with a number of extras including leather interior and chrome wheels. It did not have a tag on it at the time it was stolen.
