Cherokee Strip museum to host Xmas in July

The Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum in Arkansas City will host its second annual Christmas in July next week.

Everything kicks off Tuesday with a family day in which families can come in for a free tour of the museum at 31639 Us Highway 77.

On Wednesday, Elaine Killblane is giving three craft workshops. The first is a teabag folded greeting card, the second is decorating candles and your home with candles, and the third is a scrapbooking class.?

Each class is $5 and anyone interested must go to the museum to sign up for the workshops.?Advance sign up is required.

On Thursday, the museum will have an Ice Cream Social.?Come out to the museum from 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. to have ice cream and visit with friends.? The ice cream will be donated by Kan-Pac. Free will donations will be accepted for this event.?

On Friday, the museum is hosting "Old Movies and Popcorn" and having an open house on the storage unit at 6:30 p.m. It was recently remodeled and the artifacts have been cleaned, cataloged and re-installed into the room. Come out and see what progress has been made in the preservation of your history.?

On Saturday the museum will host a craft fair from 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m. There will be various crafts and jewelry available at the event.?

In the evening, the Friends of the museum are sponsoring a benefit dinner at 6 p.m.?Tickets to the dinner are $8 for adults and $5 for children. The museum will dedicate the Bland School to Gaylord Shurtz and the Ramsey Family at 7:30.?

All of the people that the school is being dedicated to attended the school and were influential in the moving and restoration of the school. ??
