Steward: Work on Wing St. project set to start

Work on a new Pizza Hut Wing Street at 19th and Main in Winfield can begin any day now because the company representing Pizza Hut has acquired a permit from the city, Patrick Steward, an engineer for the city said Monday.

The permit for the new project was issued late Friday and demoltion of the former Taco Tico building should begin this week. Pizza Hut’s new 4,682-square-foot building is expected to be similar to one in Arkansas City.

The restaurant will include a drive-through. The new eatery will measure 62 feet by 92 feet and will be constructed just a litte south of the old Taco Tico building. The restaurant’s longer side will run parallel to 19th.

A cash advance business ? which occupies a building between the planned restaurant and Pizza Hut’s current location ? will stay where it is, Steward said. Pizza Hut has presented a parking configuration that uses space on the Taco Tico site, some space from Advance America Cash Advance and space from the existing store.

"They’ve reached some agreement with the cash-advance place that we won’t really know much about," Steward said. "Actually it seems to work out well because it will provide a more defined parking area for the cash-advance business."
