Cowley County rivers ? swollen from heavy rains in the area ? will crest below projected levels, creating only minor flooding, emergency management officials said.
The Walnut River at Winfield was expected to crest just over flood stage Thursday and cause only minor flooding. Organizers of the Walnut Valley Festival were concerned the river might cover considerable portions of the campground areas but that has not happened.
The Walnut will crest below floodstage in Arkansas City, and the Arkansas River will crest just above flood state.
Heavy rains caused the closing of 26th Road (Cowley 2) west of Rock Wednesday, but it has now reopened.
