Geuda teen faces charges in fatality accident

Prosecutors expect formal charges to come this week for a Geuda Springs man arrested following a fatal motor-vehicle accident in Sumner County late Saturday.

Patrick Burr, 19, is being held on $50,000 bond and was booked on charges of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to yield, and transporting an open container. Sumner County attorney Evan Watson said Burr was to make a first appearance in court this morning.

The county attorney’s office has received a report on the weekend accident and will formally file appropriate charges Tuesday, Watson said.

Burr was driving a 2007 Dodge 1500 pickup west on E. 40th Street S. when he failed to yield for an oncoming car traveling south on Oliver Rd., according to a report from the sheriff’s office. A passenger in Burr’s vehicle, 19-year-old Brayden D. Wiley-Poppelwell, was dead at the scene.

Cody J. Davis, Levi C. Diel and Miranda B. Serrioz were also passengers in Burr’s car and were injured. Serrioz was taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center after the accident. She was treated and discharged from the hospital Monday, a Wesley spokesperson said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Jessica N. Sanborn, was injured but those injuries were not believed to be life threatening. Alan L. Wollard, a passenger in Sanborn’s vehicle, suffered mild injuries.

Both cars were totaled, according to the sheriff’s report.

The accident occurred around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on a stretch of road southwest of Oxford.

Brayden D. Wiley-Poppelwell was critically injured in another roadway accident this spring and was in the hospital for some time before recovering. A brother, Dustin Wiley, was killed in an accident in June.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident that killed Dustin Wiley, a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
