Stabbing suspect appears in court for first time

Stabbing suspect Daniel Dumas made his first appearance in a Winfield courtroom Thursday. He is now formally charged with aggravated battery, a level-four felony, and criminal damage to property.

Dumas, 28, is accused of stabbing Justin West late Saturday during an altercation at a trailer-home park at 500 N. Michigan in Winfield. He was arrested Sunday and is being held on $100,000 bond.

During an investigation into the incident a 28-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a head injury believed to be caused by blunt force trauma. He was treated and relesed from the hospital.

Police have yet to say whether the injured man was Dumas.

Check back later Friday for more details.
