AC police to officer citizen police program

Ark City’s police department is now accepting applications for its new Citizens on Patrol Program. The first 12-week session starts March 11.

The program is designed to train local community members to assist police officers in non-enforcement duties. Participants will attend classes from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each Thursday.

Classes will be held in the training room at the police department.

Areas of training include accident investigation, patrol functions, communications, search and seizure, DUI enforcement and traffic enforcement. The program is similar to a citizen’s academy program in Winfield.

Graduates of the Ark City program will have the opportunity to assist different divisions within the department. Assistance may come in the form of citizen patrol, administrative support, station staffing, court services and much more.
