Going pink at basketball game raised $6,168

Students at high schools in Ark City and Winfield raised over $6,000 for cancer research as part of the Pink Zone Cancer initiative.

Student Councils for both schools put rivalry aside Feb. 19 at a basketball game between Ark City and Winfield. Pink shirts and bracelets were sold to fans at the game.

Miss Kansas USA Bethany Gerber made an appearance to speak on the importance of raising awareness for cancer research.

The $6168 raised was donated directly to the Kay Yow/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association cancer initiative. The Pink Zone initiative is an effort to raise breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball, on campuses and in communities nationwide.
