UPDATE: Pair on motorcycle in serious cond.

UPDATE: 9:36 a.m. Thursday – Two people injured in the accident at the Winfield Fairgrounds entrance are in stable condition and require surgery to recover from their injuries, according to a spokesperson for the family.

Benjamin Karr and Leanne Martin, both of Winfield, were hospitalized after their motorcycle collided with a car at an entrance to the fairgrounds on W. Ninth. Both are in serious condition in the surgical intensive care unit at Via Christi-St. Francis, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Karr suffered a broken leg that required surgery to repair, according to Barbara Huff, who called to update NewsCow on the couple’s condition. He also has broken ribs and had a partially collapsed lung.

The lung was repaired prior to surgery.

Martin broker her right arm and has a few broken fingers.

"And her jaw was pretty much shattered, it’s really bad," Huff said. "When the swelling goes down she’ll need facial reconstructive surgery."

Huff, however, said it appeared that both would mostly recover from their injuries. The couple did not appear to have helmets on, police and Huff said.

Both were very familiar with the motorcycle, a Honda Goldwing, and previously had ridden it back and forth from Tennessee.

Martin told friends and family she had a vague memory of the car pulling out in front of the couple as they approached.
