Wilt is newest Cowley County commissioner

Wayne Wilt will replace Dick Bonfy as county commissioner for the first district, Republican voters decided Tuesday.

Wilt faces no Democratic challenger in November and thus his 771 votes are enough to put him in office. Henry Hawkins finished second with 453 votes, Eddie McGowan had 344 and Darrin Green posted 125.

The race was never close as votes were tallied. Wilt is a long-time resident of Winfield and is active in the community. He said he relishes his chance to serve the community as commissioner.

"I’m looking forward to getting in there and getting started," he said. "I have plenty to learn."
