AC library switching to a new bar code system

Ark City Public Library has received more than $5,000 in grant money to help fund the transition to a new bar code system the library will switch to in November.

The library received a Library Services and Technology Act grant in the amount of $3,880. The federal funds are dministered by the Kansas State Library. In addition, the library received $1,950 from an automation grant from the South Central Kansas Library System.????

The library is joining with a group of thirteen other libraries in the region to purchase a library system together. By sharing a system, the cost is reduced for all participants, officials said.?

The shared system will be called the South Central Kansas Automation System.? ????????????

The library has prepared for the new system by recoding every item in the library.? In addition, each library customer is being given a new bar code number.

SCKAN is scheduled to start running November 18. The library will be closed November 17 for staff training.
